Overview

Italy Study Visa

The Italy Study Visa is a national (Type D) visa that allows non-EU students, including Pakistani nationals, to enrol in full-time study at an Italian university, academy, or recognised institution — covering degree programs, as well as specialised courses in fields like design, architecture, and fashion. Applicants must first secure admission, then apply for the visa at the Italian consulate before travelling, and — importantly — apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno (residence permit) within eight days of arriving in Italy.
Beyond admission, applicants need to show sufficient financial means to cover living costs, proof of accommodation, and valid health insurance coverage. Depending on the course and institution, some applicants may also need a Dichiarazione di Valore or an equivalent statement of comparability for their prior qualifications. Once settled, students generally have part-time work rights during their studies, and Italy’s comparatively affordable tuition — especially at public universities — makes it an attractive option for students seeking a quality European education at a lower cost.
