Overview
Canada (AIP)
The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a permanent, employer-driven immigration pathway designed to help Canada’s four Atlantic provinces — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador — attract and retain skilled workers and international graduates. Unlike Australia’s points-tested visas, the AIP is built around a genuine job offer from a designated Atlantic employer, and unlike Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program, it doesn’t require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Applicants who receive a qualifying job offer, meet the program’s work experience or graduate criteria, and complete a settlement plan can apply directly for permanent residency — meaning there’s no separate temporary work permit stage required before gaining PR status, although a bridging work permit is often available while the PR application is processed.
Benefits
Key Advantages of the Atlantic Immigration Program
- Direct pathway to Canadian permanent residency — no separate temporary visa stage required
- No Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) needed from the sponsoring employer
- Access to a bridging open work permit in many cases while your PR application is processed
- Program extends to your spouse and dependent children
- Settlement support built into the program, helping your family integrate into your new community
- A recognised route into Canada’s growing Atlantic provinces, with strong demand across healthcare, trades, hospitality, and technology sectors
Eligibility and Criteria
Requirements of the AIP
The AIP is designed for skilled workers and international graduates with a genuine employer sponsor in Atlantic Canada. To qualify, applicants generally need to show:

- Relevant work experience matching the program’s requirements, or an eligible Canadian post-secondary credential (for the international graduate stream)
- Language ability meeting the minimum required Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level
- Education credentials equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma or higher
- Proof of settlement funds, unless already legally working in Canada
- A completed settlement plan, developed with support from a designated settlement service provider
- A clean legal and immigration record
